Remote Locks

The Remote Locks tile gives users barcode-based access to BX Lock–controlled areas — gates, compounds, or any site access point managed by a BoxLock device. Admins control who has access, when it expires, and can revoke or regenerate credentials at any time.

How it works

  1. An admin creates an access grant for a user, specifying the lock and an expiry date
  2. The system generates a unique Code 128 barcode for that grant
  3. The user opens the Remote Locks tile and presents their barcode at the lock scanner
  4. The lock verifies the barcode and grants or denies entry
  5. When the grant expires (or is revoked), the barcode stops working

For users

Open the Remote Locks tile from the portal home. Your active grants are listed with:

  • The lock name and site
  • Days remaining until expiry (shown in amber, turning red when 7 days or fewer remain)
  • A scannable barcode

Tap a grant to expand the barcode to full screen for easy scanning.

TIP

If your barcode is not working, ask an admin to check whether it has expired or been revoked. They can regenerate a new barcode for the same grant without creating a new entry.

Requesting site access

If your organization requires a mine driver credential before granting lock access, the Request Site Access form will display a credential status overlay until your credential is accepted:

StatusWhat you see
Not uploadedUpload Credentials prompt
Under reviewUnder Review message (clock icon)
RejectedResubmit prompt with reason
ExpiredUpdate Mine Driver's Licence prompt

Once your credential is approved, the overlay clears and you can submit the site access request form normally.

Overtime alerts

When one or more of your grants is approaching expiry, the Remote Locks portal tile shows a red alert border. Tap the tile to see which grants need attention.

Admins also see an alert indicator inside the Remote Locks screen for any grants nearing their expiry date across the organization.

For admins

Remote Locks administration is available from the Asset DatabaseRemote Locks section.

Creating a grant

  1. Tap New Grant
  2. Select the user and the lock they need access to
  3. Set an expiry date
  4. Tap Save — the barcode is generated immediately

Revoking access

Open a grant and tap Revoke. The barcode is immediately deactivated. The grant record is retained for audit purposes.

Regenerating a barcode

If a barcode is lost or compromised, open the grant and tap Regenerate. A new barcode is issued and the old one is invalidated.

WARNING

Regenerating replaces the existing barcode. The user must refresh their Remote Locks screen to see the new one.

Expiry alerts

Grants approaching expiry trigger an automated alert to the configured notification subscribers. Review your subscriber list in OrganizationNotification Subscribers.
