Scheduler

The Scheduler is the main calendar workspace where you build your project timeline. It combines a multi-month calendar, event templates, and display controls into one view.

Calendar views

Switch between zoom levels using the buttons in the top-right corner of the calendar.

ViewShowsBest for
1MOne calendar monthDay-by-day precision, editing event positions
4MFour calendar months side-by-sideReviewing phase overlaps and blocker collisions

Use the ← / → arrows to navigate backward or forward. The Today button jumps directly to the current date regardless of how far you have navigated.

Event templates

Templates are the building blocks of your schedule. Each template defines a named activity with a default duration, cost structure, and scheduling rules. Placed instances inherit these defaults but can be overridden per-event.

Creating a template

  1. Click + New in the left panel under Event Templates.
  2. Give the template a descriptive name (e.g. "Mobilization" or "Drilling Phase 1").
  3. Set the default duration in work days — this is the number of days the crew actually works. Blocker days and rotation rest days extend the calendar span automatically.
  4. Optionally add vendors, labor, and billable items (see Roster).
  5. Save the template. It now appears in the left panel ready to drag onto the calendar.

Template cards have three icon buttons: Edit (pencil), Duplicate, and Delete (trash). Deleting a template does not remove existing placed instances.

Duplicating a template

Click the Duplicate icon on a template card to create a copy. A prompt appears asking for the new template's name — the copy is created with all the same settings as the original. This is useful for creating variants of a phase (e.g. "Rotary Phase 1" → "Rotary Phase 2") without rebuilding vendor and cost assignments from scratch.

Saving changes back to a template

When you edit a placed event instance and want to persist the changes as the new default for future placements, check Save as Template at the top of the event edit modal before clicking Save. A prompt asks you to confirm or rename the template. The saved template is updated immediately — it does not affect already-placed events that were previously created from it.

Templates and placed instances are independent

Editing a template does not automatically update events already on the calendar. Edits to an existing placed event similarly do not change the template unless you explicitly check Save as Template. This lets you adjust individual instances without disturbing the project-wide default.

Searching templates

Use the Search templates… box to filter the template list by name.

Placing and moving events

Placing from the sidebar

Drag a template card from the left panel and drop it onto any day cell in the calendar. Connex creates a placed event starting on that day and calculates the end date based on the template's duration and any active blockers.

TIP

Press Escape at any time while dragging or after clicking a template card to cancel the placement.

Moving a placed event

Drag the event bar to a new start date. The end date recalculates immediately, preserving the work-day count. Any events linked to this one reposition automatically.

Resizing

Drag the right edge of an event bar to extend or shorten it. The duration (work days) updates in the detail panel.

Clicking a day cell

Clicking directly on a day cell (not an event bar) opens the day edit panel for that date. What you see depends on what already exists on that day:

  • Nothing on that day — a quick-create panel opens with buttons for + New Blocker and + New Note.
  • Existing items on that day — a selection sheet appears listing every event, blocker, and note that falls on that date. Each item shows a colored type badge (Event, Blocker, or Note) so overlapping items are immediately distinguishable. Click any row to open its edit modal.

Selecting and moving multiple events

Hold Shift and click event bars to build a multi-selection. Selected bars highlight with a colored outline. Once two or more events are selected:

  • Drag any selected bar to move the whole group together — all selected events shift by the same number of days.
  • Click an empty area on the calendar to deselect.

Multi-select is useful for sliding an entire phase — select all events in a campaign, then drag them as a block to a new start date.

Event detail panel

Click any event bar to open its detail panel on the right side. The panel shows:

  • Date span and schedule summary (e.g. "Extends around blockers · 5d on / 10d off")
  • Cost summary — average daily cost and total cost
  • Day calendar — blue chips for work days, red chips for blocked or rest days
  • Attachments
  • Remove from Calendar button

Click the pencil icon in the panel header to open the full event settings modal.

Blockers

Blockers represent periods when work cannot proceed — public holidays, maintenance windows, weather shutdowns, or custom closures. Events configured to respect blockers automatically route their work days around them.

Creating a blocker

Click any empty day cell in the calendar to open the blocker creation form.

FieldNotes
LabelOptional. Defaults to the type name if left blank (e.g. "Holiday").
Start / End DateSet directly, or enter a day count in the duration field.
TypeHoliday, Maintenance, Weather, or Custom. Controls the default color.
ColorAvailable for the Custom type.
Show label on calendarWhen checked, the blocker's label also appears as a clickable bar on the calendar in addition to the background shading.

Clicking the blocker background or its label bar opens the edit modal. When you save a blocker, a toast notification lists all placed events affected by the change.

Blocker colors

Blockers render as a translucent background highlight by default. Enable Show label on calendar to add a named bar at the event row level — useful for visually identifying overlapping blockers when multiple are active.

Calendar notes

Notes are free-form annotations on specific date ranges. They appear on the calendar alongside events but have no effect on scheduling. Notes have a title, body, date range, and color. They are visible in both the Scheduler and Viewer.

Creating a note

Click any empty day cell to open the day edit panel, then click + New Note. Fill in the title, body (optional), date range, and color. The note bar appears at the bottom of each day cell it spans.

To edit or delete a note, click the day cell on any day it covers and select the note from the selection sheet, or click the note bar directly on the calendar.

Display ordering

When multiple events overlap on the same dates, control their vertical stacking order.

  1. Click Order in the top-left toolbar.
  2. Drag events up or down in the list. Events at the top sit below other bars on the calendar; events lower in the list appear on top.
  3. Click Order again to exit ordering mode.

Filtering

Click Filter in the Calendar Events toolbar to open the filter panel. Active filters are shown as removable chips. Available filter dimensions:

  • Event name / template
  • Vendor
  • Work Order

Multiple filters combine with AND logic. Remove individual filters by clicking the × on a chip, or close the panel to clear all filters.

Saved views

Save frequently-used filter combinations as named views so you can switch between them without rebuilding filters each time.

Saving a view

  1. Set your filters using the Filter panel.
  2. Click the bookmark icon in the top bar to open the Views dropdown.
  3. Click Save current view, enter a name, and press Enter or click Save.

The new view is activated immediately.

Applying a saved view

Open the Views dropdown and click any saved view row to apply its filters instantly. The active view name appears in the bookmark button.

Updating or deleting a view

  • Update — apply the view, adjust your filters, then click Update in the dropdown to overwrite it with the current filter state.
  • Rename — click the pencil icon on the view row.
  • Delete — click the trash icon on the view row.

Saving and loading calendars

Auto-save (local)

Connex writes every change to your browser's local storage automatically. There is no Save button for local state — your work is safe as long as you use the same browser on the same device.

Cloud save

Click Save to Cloud in the top bar to push a named snapshot to the server. Give the snapshot a meaningful name (e.g. "Week 4 baseline" or "Approved schedule v2"). Cloud snapshots are:

  • Accessible from any device when you log in
  • Shareable with teammates (see below)
  • Kept indefinitely — you accumulate a version history you can reload at any time

Cloud load

Click Load Calendar to browse your saved cloud snapshots. Each row shows the snapshot name, who saved it, and when. Click a row to preview, then Load to replace the current project with that snapshot.

Loading replaces current local state

Loading a cloud calendar overwrites your current in-browser state. If you have unsaved local changes you want to keep, save them to the cloud first under a different name before loading.

Sharing a calendar

Saved cloud calendars can be shared with teammates directly from the Load Calendar dialog. Click the Share icon next to any saved calendar to open the sharing panel.

Sharing modes

ModeWho gets access
My OrgEvery approved user in your organization
My CompanyEvery approved user who belongs to the same company as you
Specific PeopleIndividual users you select from the picker

For My Org and My Company modes, click Share to grant access to all users in that group at once. The picker shows how many people will be added.

For Specific People, select a name from the dropdown — names are shown as First Last (Company) rather than email addresses.

Cross-company cost sharing

If you enable Costs shared for a recipient from a different company, Connex warns you before granting access. Cost data is hidden by default for all shares.

Permissions

SettingOptions
PermissionView only — read the calendar; Can edit — modify events and blockers
Cost dataHidden (default) — cost figures are not visible; Shared — full cost breakdown is visible

Permissions can be updated after sharing by expanding the Current access list and changing the dropdowns or the cost toggle.
