Getting Started with Connex

This guide walks through building a complete project schedule from scratch — from creating your first template to sharing the finished calendar with your team.

Step 1 — Create a project

Open Connex via the Scheduler dropdown in the top-right corner of OneSiteKit. If this is your first time, a default project is created automatically.

To create a new project, click the project name in the top bar to open the project switcher, then click + New Project. Give it a name that identifies the site or campaign (e.g. "Biofouling Survey — Q4 2026").

One project per campaign

Keep separate site operations in separate projects. Each project has its own independent templates, events, blockers, and roster.

Step 2 — Set up your Roster

The Roster defines the labor roles, equipment, and billable items you'll attach to events for cost tracking. Setting it up early means every event you place can immediately calculate costs.

  1. Click Scheduler → Roster in the top-right dropdown.
  2. Click + Add Labor and fill in a role name (e.g. "Driller"), hourly rate, and hours per day.
  3. Repeat for each role, piece of equipment, and billable fee.

You can bulk-import a roster using the Import CSV button — download the template first to see the expected format.

Step 3 — Create event templates

Templates define your named activities — drilling phases, mobilizations, equipment moves, inspections. Each template sets default duration, cost structure, and scheduling rules. Placed events inherit these defaults but can be overridden individually.

  1. Click + New in the Event Templates panel on the left side of the Scheduler.
  2. Enter a descriptive name (e.g. "Mobilization" or "Rotary DS — Biofouling").
  3. Set the default duration in work days.
  4. Click Save.

The template card appears in the left panel with three icon buttons:

IconAction
PencilEdit the template defaults
DuplicateCreate a copy — you'll be prompted for a new name
TrashDelete the template (does not remove placed instances)

Start with templates, not dates

Define all your activities as templates before placing anything on the calendar. This makes it easy to rearrange phases later — just drag bars, and linked dependents reposition automatically.

Step 4 — Add blockers

Blockers are date ranges when work cannot proceed — holidays, maintenance windows, weather shutdowns. Add them before placing events so the schedule routes around them correctly.

Click any empty day cell on the calendar to open the day edit panel, then select + New Blocker. Set the label, date range, and type (Holiday, Maintenance, Weather, or Custom).

Events configured to Respect all blockers (the default) automatically extend their end dates to reach the required work-day count around any blocked periods.

Step 5 — Place events on the calendar

Drag a template card from the left panel and drop it onto the day you want the activity to start. Connex places the event and calculates the end date based on the template duration and active blockers.

Click the placed event bar to open the detail panel on the right, which shows the full date span, cost summary, and a day-by-day chip grid.

To move an event, drag it to a new start date. To resize it, drag the right edge of the bar.

Step 6 — Configure each event

Click the pencil icon in the event detail panel to open the full settings modal. Here you can:

  • Override the name, start date, and duration for this instance
  • Enable rotation limits (max consecutive work days and mandatory rest periods)
  • Link this event to an anchor event so it repositions automatically
  • Attach vendors, labor, and equipment for cost roll-ups
  • Add custom fields, notes, and file attachments

Step 7 — Review costs in the Report Builder

Once events have vendors attached, open Scheduler → Reports to see cost, days, and hours across any dimension you choose: by event, by vendor, by work order, by month, and more.

Export to XLSX for handoff to project accountants or cost controllers.

Step 8 — Save to cloud and share

Project data is automatically saved locally in your browser as you work. To share it with teammates:

  1. Click Save to Cloud in the top bar and give the snapshot a name.
  2. Open the Load Calendar dialog and click the Share icon next to the saved calendar.
  3. Choose who gets access (My Org, My Company, or Specific People) and set permissions (View only or Can edit).

Read-only stakeholders can use the Viewer — open it via Scheduler → Viewer — which mirrors the calendar without any editing controls.

What to do next

  • Learn how rotation limits work and how they carry across linked events → Event Settings
  • Walk through concrete linked event examples with day-by-day tables → Linked Event Scenarios
  • Set up saved reports for recurring cost review meetings → Report Builder
